Genius

So, Jill saw this idea that I think everyone has now seen because it's so smart and super simple. Take a headboard, cut the legs off, paint it and add some hooks.

Here's Jill's take on it.
The before (with the legs already cut off).

And all done.

So jealous. I'm on the hunt for the perfect headboard now.

Quick Change

Cute little fruit pics.
Nice, but they've been hanging around the kitchen too long.
Time for something new.

Take the frame apart. Separate the double mat. Color the little bit that shows of the 2nd mat with a black Sharpie. Cover the top mat with leftover wallpaper from the bathroom (could use scrapbook paper). Print out letters. Put it all back together and ta-da! Better, I think.

This only took about 30 minutes because I had everything I needed when I got the notion to switch it out. So instead of putting it on the bottom of the Projects To Do List, I had 30 minutes to spare so I just did it. The longest part was deciding on which font went best with the new mat.

try this Magnetic Board project.

Get your hands on a painters canvas. I got 24x16 one at Big Lots for $7 awhile ago but you know Big Lots. They never have the same thing twice so they're gone now. But Michaels always has them and so does Walmart I hear.

Paint the canvas. I used acrylic and watercolors and finger-painted my design. If I had spray paint in the right color, I probably would have used that.
Let the paint dry.

Turn the canvas over and pull out the staples on one end with a flat-head screwdriver.

Take out as many staples as you need to slide in the piece of sheet metal you have purchased from Lowes or Home Depot and cut to size. (Wear gloves, the edges are sharp!)

Staple the canvas back in place. If you don't have a staple gun, you can hot glue it I'm sure.

Hang it up and you're done.
(Strong magnets work better than the cheap-o kind.)

A Girly Room

My girls share a room. But really it's mine...to decorate. I'm sure in a couple of years I'm going to get the boot and the Jonas Brothers posters will take over. Until then, this is what they have to live with.

The picture frames are a Target clearance (formerly dark brown, spray-painted white). The mats were redone with fabric scraps that match some other things in the room. They are hung on a regular old curtain rod with the ribbons threaded through eye screws on the back of the frames.

Meet Amy

No, it's not a new American Girl Movie...but she is American and she is a girl. She's also a busy, hands on mom of 5. Amy has a knack for scheduling and organizing her large family and sometimes finds time for some creative projects like today's feature. Being only 2 years apart, I know some of her many talents, and believe me, she's way better at stuff like this than she was at learning how to drive... he he...
Amy has a large wall right next to her kitchen table. Here's how she filled the space.

Those are pictures of her 5 kids at various ages doing what else? Eating!

She bought the wood letters at Michaels and used a paintbrush to "paint" a thin layer of really tacky glue on the back of the letters. Then she put masking tape on top of them to hold them there until they dried (ooh, you could even use the vinyl letters that are all the rage now...). She says the hardest part is doing the math involved in making sure that your pictures are evenly spaced on your wall space, and the letters are even trickier to get them centered on the wall also....Well, we took a college math class together and she did struggle a little...ha ha! Just kidding A-frame!

Bon Appetit!
